Guldagergaard Ceramic Research Centre - DenMark

In pursuit of woodfire opportunities,  i  was accepted as the young Woodfire Artist in Residence at guldagergaard Ceramic Research Centre in the small coastal town of skaelskor, denmark.

guldagergaard is an incredible centre that offers the opportunity for ceramic artists from around the world to live, work, create, eat and explore together. The convergence of ideas, styles, influences creates an  inspiring environment to further one's practice and body of work.

the  kiln yard   is  a  diverse collection of  woodfire and gas kilns built by  an array of master kiln builders including Fred Olsen (USA), robert sanderson (Ireland),  Andres aillik (Estonia),   Hendrik Schöne (GERMANY, and   MASAKAZU KUSAKABE (JAPAN)

i had the privilege of firing the bourry box, wood soda &  phoenix  kilns    with  priscilla mouritzen (south africa/denmark)   and evelin saul (estonia)

i chose to fire the bourry box for my final research project as i explored the   relationship between people, places and objects  through my 'cups in conversation' project and had the  honour of presenting  an artist talk to the friends of guldagergaard  showcasing these  pieces, the process and the place.

my time as the young woodfire artist in residence exposed me to  new kilns, artists, ideas, places, concepts and  formed new relationships between all of them.
